Enchanting new christmas experience launches at Saltram

The team at Saltram are spending the next few days putting the finishing touches on their biggest and most enchanting Christmas yet.  The eighteenth century house and garden will be bringing to life fairy tales through the ages whilst also adding a new ‘must see’ for visitors, the illuminated garden. The historic garden will be awash with a glow as an evening walking trail is lit up with a rainbow of colours.

Fiona Macmillan, Visitor Experience Manager at Saltram says “we’re going bigger and better than ever before. The house lends itself as the perfect backdrop to fairy tales, and seeing the garden lit with illuminations is not only festive, it’s rather breath-taking. There’s more to do and see to help create a great festive treat for families”.

Families can enjoy the ‘Who is the fairest of them all trail’ where some cheeky little dwarves have moved into the garden. Tickets are also available for a special ‘Storytime with Father Christmas’ where Father Christmas will be sharing some special stories and songs about what your fairy tale friends got for Christmas.

There’s plenty on offer for adults too, with the house decadently decorated with inspiration taken from some well-known fairy tales. Warm yourself with the knowledge that each magical day out supports the National Trust’s work as a charity looking after special places for future generations to enjoy. After enjoying a stroll around the illuminated garden there will be blankets and a festive treat in the Winter Courtyard Café located in the stables.

Classic stories that will be on display include Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The garden will be lit every evening, Wednesday to Sunday at dusk, as people enjoy their day out in the festive season. Members visit for free this Christmas and normal admission applies to non- members.

This Christmas, Saltram near Plymouth, will also be staying open longer so more people can enjoy the new festive day out, exploring the fairy tales on display, seeing the Christmas lights and heading over to the winter courtyard café which will be open from 4- 8pm, Wednesday – Sunday throughout December.

Enchanted Saltram will open on Wednesday 30 November. Visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/saltram, call 01752 333500 or pop in to the Welcome Centre to find out more.
