More than 12,000 miles have been pledged by people walking or running the coast path so far this month, smashing the record set last year of 10,000 miles clocked up during the inaugural event.
A trio of trail running challenges collectively promise to be one of the highlights of the first South West Outdoor Festival, which takes place in the heart of Heddon Valley in North Devon this September. (23-25 September)
The main running events will take place on the Saturday morning of the weekend-long festival. There are three distances for trail hounds to choose from:
- A full off-road marathon-length race
- A half-marathon event
- The popular 10km challenge.
The event, backed by TV adventurer Monty Halls aims to get as many people as possible walking along the coast path during October. It could be one mile or the entire 630 mile route in a bid to set the record for the number of times people can collectively walk or run the equivalent distance to the length of the Path in one month.
